COLUMBUS, Ohio — Customers lined up several hours before the new generation of the Apple iPhone went on sale Friday morning.

The third-generation device is being introduced in a rollout stretching across 22 countries.

The Apple product costs half the price and is twice the speed of the original iPhone, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported.

The phone features GPS navigation, Microsoft ActiveSync to deliver your e-mail, calendars, contacts, appointments and more, Bell reported.

Users will also have the ability to download applications using the iPhone's App Store. Apple said more than 500 programs are available, including more than 125 applications that are being offered to iPhone customers for free.

Users can download the applications directly to their phones from either Wi-Fi or cellular wireless links, including the iPhone's new 3-G high-speed network.

Prices for the new iPhone start at about $200 dollars, with a two-year AT&T wireless service contract.
