MANSFIELD, Ohio — A pregnant woman was held at the Richland County Jail on Wednesday after police said she admitted to giving her 11-month-old daughter an overdose of prescription drugs.

Cynthia Redman was charged with aggravated murder, 10TV's Kurt Ludlow reported.

Her daughter, Madison, was taken to Akron Children's Hospital on Thursday, where she died. The girl's death was reported to Mansfield police.

Redman, 23, pleaded not guilty in court on Friday.

Police said their case against Redman is solid after she told them that she intentionally put prescription drugs in the baby's bottle, Ludlow reported.

"She admitted that she had never been close to the baby," said Mansfield police Capt. Michele Webb. "In her statement, she actually says she thought the baby broke up her marriage and she apparently wanted to harm the baby."

Neighbors told 10TV News that they hardly saw Redman leave the house with her children.

“You could constantly hear the babies cry,” said Elizabeth Wilt. “You’d never see them outside. You’d never see her take them anywhere.”

Redman's two sons, 2 and 4 years old, are in the custody of Richland County Children Services.
