Two Years Later, Missing Man's Girlfriend Balancing Life

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two years after her boyfriend disappeared from a campus-area bar, Alexis Waggoner said she has
learned to split focus between the agonizing search for answers and her dream of graduating medical
school, 10TV's Cara Connelly reported.
Waggoner, who was dating Brian Shaffer at the time of his disappearance, was set to graduate
from medical school this spring. It was a dream both she and Shaffer shared.
Shaffer was last seen at the Ugly Tuna Saloona in the South Campus Gateway on April 1,
2006.

Grainy surveillance images showed the last glimpse of Shaffer going up a set of escalators
toward the bar. Authorities have developed no leads in his disappearance.
Waggoner said the last two years have been tough for her, but counseling and a strong family
enabled her to get through the darkest days, Connelly reported.
While police and family members continued to search for answers in Shaffer's disappearance,
Waggoner said she was balancing her memories of Brian and her life ahead.
"Obviously you have the goal of trying to find someone, but you've got to also have the goal
of what your life is going to be," Waggoner said. '"I guess you just try as much as you can to look
at both of them independently and go for both of them."
"You do what you need to do to find someone," Waggoner said. "Talk to the media, talk to
whoever you need to, keep looking and getting involved. But at the same time you have to remember
that you are still there."
Waggoner said that there were many people inside the bar the night that Shaffer disappeared.
She said that she was hopeful that anyone with information would come forward.
Crime Stopper offered a reward of up to $25,000 in exchange for information about Shaffer's
disappearance.
