COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus woman was featured in this month's issue of Black Enterprise Magazine, for her success both here and around the world, 10TV's Andrea Cambern reported Wednesday.

Carol Baldwin Moody is Vice President of Compliance for Nationwide Insurance.

It seems as if she's always on the move.

"One of my favorites that people call me is Taz," Moody said. "The Tasmanian Devil, because I'm moving fast. That's my nickname."

Moody wears a watch with two time zones because she travels so much, Cambern reported.

When Black Enterprise Magazine caught up with her, it listed her as one of the 75 most powerful African-American business women in the U.S.

She's been collecting awards since junior high.

"I was lucky in that when I was going into 7th grade, I won a scholarship to go to a private school," Moody said.

This wife and mother of two grew up in a very modest neighborhood, Cambern reported.

"It was hard because I would come home from school in my hockey cleats, and be ostracized," Moody said.

Moody said she pushed herself to excel and along the way, traveled the world for various jobs, Cambern reported.

When not traveling, Moody is multi-tasking, with one hand on the computer, and on her Blackberry.

"The sky is the limit, but the reverse is that you don't have to lose your female presence to do it," Moody said. "I think that's what the fear has been for women."

Moody said she tried to teach that to her daughter, and thinks the next generation of women is forming a new pattern for success.

"They realize you don't have to do it by yourself. That might have been really courageous," Moody said. "But there are so many more of us now, that it'll be easier."

Moody is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business and Columbia University. She also volunteers for educational and charitable work.
