Terry Ault

Chopper 10 Chief Pilot

Terry Ault has flown helicopters for 30 years and is the chief pilot for 10TV News HD.

Ault began his flying career with the U.S. Army in 1968.  After training, Ault served his country as a pilot in Vietnam until a fateful day in March 1969.  While in the air, Ault was struck in the chest by a single bullet. Ault not only took emergency action to save his own life, but he landed his Hughes AH1G Cobra helicopter, saving the life of his gunner flying with him.  Ault was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice.

Upon returning to the states, Ault graduated from The Ohio State University.  He continued at Ohio State as an instructor until a chance meeting with the chief pilot of Wolfe Aviation - a subsidiary of WBNS - owner of the Dispatch Printing Co.

On the same day in 1979, WBNS acquired central Ohio's first television helicopter and Ault as its first pilot. Ault was instrumental in the initial design of the broadcast and flight systems of the original Chopper 10 and its successor, delivered in 1998.

Ault still serves as chief pilot for the new Chopper 10, a Bell 407 with a gyrostabilizer camera, Skyzoom.

Terry and his wife, Cindy, have two children, a son and a daughter.
