Statewide candidates to report August fundraising

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio candidates running for statewide offices are expected to report the money that their campaigns raised last month.

A campaign finance deadline on Thursday requires candidates to disclose their August contributions, but not expenses. So it won't be fully known how much money they have in the bank until mid-October, just before the fall election.

Republicans hold all statewide offices in Ohio and have held a fundraising edge in terms of cash on hand to spend on their races.

The last monthly campaign finance report showed that incumbent Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) had raised about four times as much campaign cash as his Democratic challenger over the reporting period.

Thursday's report could reflect Democrats' shift of resources away from embattled gubernatorial candidate Ed FitzGerald, the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH'-guh) County executive.
