BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) — A former chemistry teacher at a suburban Detroit Catholic high school says she was fired after becoming pregnant in a gay marriage.
Thirty-three-year-old Barbara Webb says she was fired from the all-girls Marian High School in August after working there for nine years. She notified employers of her pregnancy in July.
Webb says her contract prohibits her from being public with anything that is contrary to Catholic doctrine. She says her termination letter didn't give a reason for her firing.
The school's president confirmed to the Detroit Free Press on Tuesday that Webb's employment ended Aug. 19. She declined to comment for confidentiality reasons.
Webb says she declined an offer to resign with health insurance through the spring semester but without pay or other benefits.
