Backers of health law form youth outreach council

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Backers of the federal health care law are creating an advisory council to help maximize the number of 18- to 34-year-olds in Michigan who have insurance.

The group Get Covered America on Wednesday will announce five members of its Youth Outreach Advisory Council.

They include Democratic state Reps. Adam Zemke of Ann Arbor and Phil Phelps of Flushing; former Michigan State women's basketball player Lauren Aitch, who owns a custom clothing company; Emily Todebush, a multiple sclerosis patient and volunteer with the Michigan State Council of Junior Leagues; and Whitney Litzner of the group ACCESS, who helps enroll people for coverage.

Get Covered America is hoping to hone its youth outreach approach. It says young adults may not understand that government subsidies are available to help pay their premiums.
