13-year-old Ohio boy drowns while fishing in river

MONROE, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a 13-year-old boy drowned after he was caught in a strong current while fishing with a friend in a southwest Ohio river.

The Butler County Sheriff's Office says Caleb Spivey was swept into the Great Miami River at Monroe at about 6:30 p.m. Monday. He attempted to swim back to shore but went under water and never resurfaced.

A 17-year-old companion told deputies he was able to get out of the water and call 911.

A water rescue team recovered his body later Monday.
