Ohio driver ejected during chase, fire ensues

HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — A police chase near Dayton ended after a fleeing car hit a bridge guardrail, went airborne and ejected its driver before bursting into flames.

Police say they had pulled over the driver of a Dodge Ram in Huber Heights shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday for going more than double the speed limit.

Police say when the officer approached the truck, he noticed signs of intoxication.

When the officer approached the truck a second time, police say the driver fled.

The Dayton Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/1tc0T6B) that police chased the driver until he hit a bridge guardrail, sending the truck over a creek and into a wooded area.

The driver was thrown from the truck, which soon became engulfed in flames.

The driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
