WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) — IndyCar driver Charlie Kimball is teaming with NBA great Dominque Wilkins at this weekend's race at the Milwaukee Mile.
The basketball Hall of Famer isn't making a career change, but promoting diabetes awareness.
Both Kimball and Wilkins have diabetes. Kimball is sponsored by Novo Nordisk, a health care company for which Wilkins also serves as a spokesman.
Kimball will give Wilkins a ride in the pace car Saturday, and Wilkins will also plans on spending time on pit row. Wilkins says he's looking forward to supporting Kimball, though his 6-foot-8 frame might preclude him from squeezing into a race car.
As for Kimball, he says he'll just stick to racing. He says challenging Wilkins on the basketball court would be a losing proposition.
