Bus driver, monitor fired after boy left on bus

METHUEN, Mass. (AP) — A school bus driver and monitor have been fired for forgetting to bring a 3 1/2-year-old autistic boy to his Methuen home.

The driver drove to his own home with the boy in the back on Monday after missing his stop. The boy is unable to communicate.

The monitor, who reviews the stop list with the driver and calls out the kids' names, also was fired. Both worked for Trombly Motor Coach, the school department's transportation contractor. The company had no comment.

The boy was not harmed.

Roxanne Vargas, the boy's mother, tells The Eagle-Tribune (http://bit.ly/1BdKROi ) her son is enrolled in a summer program that ends at 1 p.m. each day. When he was not home by 1:40 p.m., she called the school. The boy was returned home at 2:48 p.m.
