MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio man is charged with burglary and kidnapping a 2-year-old boy after a driver reported he was trying to give away the child along a road.
Chief Deputy Scott Hildenbrand of the Geauga (jee-AW'-guh) County Sheriff's Office says the motorist pulled over in Middlefield Township because it appeared the man needed help, and then the man tried to give him the baby. The motorist called authorities around 12:30 a.m. Monday.
Hildenbrand says investigators determined 21-year-old Seth Malko entered an apartment through an unlocked sliding door and took the child, and he later broke into a different apartment where investigators found them. The boy wasn't harmed.
Hildenbrand says Malko acknowledged he'd been using drugs and didn't appear to know the family.
Court records listed no attorney for Malko.
