Man suffers head injuries in Rhode Island crash

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — State police say a 57-year-old man has suffered head injuries after his motorcycle skidded out of control as he and another rider approached the downtown exit of the Pell Bridge.

The Providence Journal reports ( the motorcyclists were riding side-by-side when they apparently hit unexpected traffic in the eastbound lane. State Police Sgt. Brian Montminy says the two braked and then skidded. It happened around 1:45 p.m. Sunday.

The Niantic, Connecticut, man with head injuries is in serious condition at Rhode Island Hospital. The second motorcyclist, a 53-year-old Moosup, Connecticut, man is being treated for minor injuries.

State police say neither man was wearing a helmet. Their names are being withheld until their families are notified.
