CINCINNATI (AP) — Nathan Eovaldi gave his second straight shutdown performance, holding Cincinnati to five hits over eight shutout innings, and Giancarlo Stanton hit his NL-leading 28th homer, powering the Miami Marlins to a 2-1 victory. The Reds fell to 8-13 since the All-Star break, a slide that has them stranded in fourth place in the NL Central.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — LeBron James is home to stay. The NBA superstar said last night he intends to play the rest of his career with Cleveland. When re-signed with the Cavaliers last month to a two-year, $41 million contract that included an option after one year, there was speculation he would one day test free agency again.

CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James will play his first preseason game with the Cavaliers at home before he faces his former team, the Miami Heat, in Brazil. The Cavs will open their exhibition season Oct. 5 against Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Israeli club formerly led by new Cleveland coach David Blatt. It will be James' first game with the Cavs since re-signing with them last month as a free agent.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Marlins left-hander Dan Jennings was released from a Pittsburgh hospital yesterday, a day after he was hit in the head by a line drive. Miami put Jennings on the seven-day concussion list. He was expected to fly back to Florida after being released from Allegheny General Hospital.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The Memphis Grizzlies will open their preseason schedule Oct. 8 by facing the Milwaukee Bucks at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Grizzlies released a preseason schedule that includes four home games, including host to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Oct. 22.
