COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police have charged a 32-year-old man in connection with an auto accident that killed one pedestrian and injured another.
Scott Haslehurst is to be arraigned in court Wednesday on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault for an accident that happened just after 10 p.m. on Aug. 3. Fifty-nine-year-old Ana Maria Illescas-Gallegos was killed and 41-year-old Verulo Valladares was injured.
Police say Haslehurst was driving north on Appian Way when he crossed the center line and drove onto the west shoulder. He struck Illescas-Gallegos, sideswiped a tree and then hit Valadares, who was walking with his bicycle.
Illescas-Gallegos was pronounced dead at the scene and Valladares is in serious but stable condition at a hospital.
It wasn't immediately known if Haslehurst has a lawyer.
