Hardwick wins in 5th District GOP primary

DETROIT (AP) — A web designer from Davison beat a health consultant from Flushing in the 5th District GOP primary for a chance to face incumbent U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee in the Flint area district.

Allen Hardwick defeated Tom Whitmire in Tuesday's primary in a race between political newcomers. The 50-year-old Hardwick lived in Ypsilanti Township when he entered the race, which is not even in the district.

Hardwick now faces the 55-year-old Kildee, who has represented the heavily Democratic district for one two-year term.
