4 suffer burns when boat explodes in Vermont

CHARLOTTE, Vt. (AP) — Four people have suffered burns after a vintage wooden boat exploded in flames at Point Bay Marina in Charlotte.

The Burlington Free Press reports (bfpne.ws/1o50Qd9) that four adults are being treated at a hospital for burns and possible fractures. Their conditions weren't immediately known.

Charlotte Volunteer Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Dick St. George says all eight occupants of the boat, including two children, suffered burns but not all needed to be taken to the hospital.

The explosion happened Sunday afternoon after the boat refueled. St. George says the boat didn't start right away and a fuel vapor explosion was ignited during attempts to restart it.

No other boats were affected by the explosion. St. George says the 1946 Chris Craft boat is a total loss.
