Ex-Ohio inmate settles injury lawsuit for $10,000

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A former Ohio prison inmate who was hit and partly run over by a state vehicle has settled a personal injury lawsuit for $10,000.

Christopher Jackson's lawsuit claimed he was cutting grass in 2010 when he was struck at Lebanon Correctional Institution.

Jackson alleged he was told to return to work after three days and didn't receive proper medical treatment for ten days. He says he suffered from chronic back and neck pain, and also claimed the vehicle's backing-up alarm wasn't working correctly.

The Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the Ohio Office of Risk Management opposed the lawsuit, saying Jackson was partially responsible for his injuries and the deadline for filing his claim had passed.

The Ohio Court of Claims approved the settlement earlier this week.
