Ohioan gets 15 years for fatal wrong-way collision

CLEVELAND (AP) — A Cleveland man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a wrong-way collision that killed a woman and badly injured her boyfriend in April.

A judge sentenced 41-year-old Julio Vargas on Tuesday. He pleaded no contest earlier to aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and driving under the influence.

Prosecutors say Vargas left a strip club, entered Interstate 480 via an exit ramp and then crashed head-on with a car driven by 22-year-old Antonio Rodriguez. The crash killed Rodriguez's 22-year-old passenger, Desiree Snyder.

A message was left Tuesday for Vargas' attorney.

Authorities say Vargas' blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.

His license was suspended at the time, after an arrest for drunken driving in January. He also had a DUI conviction in 2007.
