RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — Crews are spraying along local streets and alleyways in Riverton to knock down mosquito populations and protect residents from possibly contracting West Nile virus.
The Riverton Ranger reports (http://bit.ly/1nbxTuD ) that Fremont County Weed and Pest Assistant Supervisor Nancy Pieropan says the spraying program uses the insecticide malathion.
The city will honor no-spray requests from residents who believe malathion is harmful. But Pieropan says the spraying will continue if West Nile virus is detected locally because the disease becomes a public health issue.
West Nile virus killed one person in Park County last year.
