MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) — Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center officials have been working with patients to help them access their personal medical records online.
Ellen Brannan, director of clinical and community health education for Southwest, says mandates in the Affordable Care Act requiring public hospitals to allow patients to view their own medical records electronically.
The Enterprise-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1syyCsR ) the since July 1, the hospital has been asking patients for their email address before discharge. Brannan says patients will be sent an invitation to sign up to view their records.
By late August or early September, Brannan says the service will be available in the hospital's clinics and the offices of doctors who are employees of the hospital.
Brannan says passwords are protected and the hospital doesn't share the information with anyone.
