LA AIDS group honors Malaysian flight victims

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A memorial has been held in Los Angeles for AIDS advocates among the 298 people killed in the crash of a Malaysian Airlines jet in Ukraine.

About 40 people brought candles, flowers and handwritten notes to Friday's memorial organized by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to honor delegates killed while traveling to the 20th International AIDS conference in Australia.

Foundation spokeswoman Kyveli Diener says it's a personal tragedy because the organization sends delegates to the conference every year.

She says those who attended linked arms and discussed the importance of every member of the community committed to fighting AIDS.
