Coroner: Ohio fishermen drowned in pond

WARREN, Ohio (AP) — A county coroner says a father and son found dead over the weekend in a northeast Ohio pond accidentally drowned.

The ruling from the Trumbull County coroner came Tuesday in the deaths of 48-year-old Anthony Harris Sr. and 20-year-old Anthony Harris Jr., both of Youngstown.

Details of what happened aren't known, but the men were fishing in a canoe at Rankin's Pond in Newton Falls, about 24 miles northwest of Youngstown. They may have fallen out of the canoe into the pond, which is 10 to 12 feet deep with heavy vegetation on the bottom. They didn't have life jackets.

The (Youngstown) Vindicator ( ) reports a search for the men was conducted when Harris Sr.'s wife called authorities when they didn't come home as scheduled on Saturday.
