PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) — A World War II veteran is getting a chance to fly again in a B-17G airplane thanks to the generosity of workers from a northern Ohio aviation museum.
James McGrady wasn't sure he could afford the $450 flight aboard the "Yankee Lady."
That's when the staff at the Liberty Aviation Museum in Port Clinton decided to collect enough money to pay for the 95-year-old veteran's flight.
He tells the Sandusky Register (http://bit.ly/1iGJwtf ) that he was an aerial gunnery instructor in pilot school at Santa Ana Air Base in California.
McGrady was supposed to go up for his flight in late June but overcast skies delayed the trip. He is now scheduled to make the flight on July 12.
