Officer: Dog rescued from ledge ran away

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A dog rescued from a cliff ledge in Kenai Fjords National Park apparently ran away from home.

Seward, Alaska, animal control officer Shelli McDowell said the people who had adopted Sadie on a trial basis were out of state for a family emergency and left the Labradoodle with a house sitter.

McDowell said they learned Tuesday that Sadie had been missing. McDowell estimated Sadie had probably traveled about 20 miles from home.

Park officials last week started hearing reports of a dog on Exit Glacier and along the Resurrection River. Rangers rescued Sadie on Monday.

McDowell said Sadie is skittish, shy and a runner. McDowell was waiting to see if the family would be able to keep her or if she would have to be placed with someone else.
