Vietnam veteran in Ohio gets belated Purple Heart

CINCINNATI (AP) — An Ohio veteran has been presented with a long overdue Purple Heart and several replacements for medals that he earned more than 40 years ago during his service in Vietnam.

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown on Tuesday presented seven medals, including the Bronze Star, to James Edward Bond of Cincinnati.

The now 63-year-old veteran served as a combat Army medic in Vietnam never received his Purple Heart for injuries he suffered there. Brown's office said the senator presented Bond with the overdue award and replacement medals for others that Bond had received earlier.

Brown is a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs.
