McDaniel not giving up GOP runoff against Cochran

By

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Chris McDaniel says he is not giving up the Mississippi GOP runoff in which Sen. Thad Cochran won by 6,800 votes.

But he has presented no evidence of the voter fraud he claims pushed Cochran to victory.

Backed by the tea party, McDaniel claims that perhaps thousands of voters violated state law by casting ballots in both the Democratic primary and the GOP runoff. He has sent volunteers to most of the state's 82 counties. Still, his spokesman says the campaign hasn't decided on any legal strategy should McDaniel decide to contest the election.

In the week since the runoff, mainstream Republicans have distanced themselves from McDaniel, and some groups that spent millions supporting him congratulated Cochran and moved on.
