Catawba College gets $1 million for nursing

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) — Catawba College is receiving a $1 million donation and will begin a program to allow registered nurses to obtain a bachelor of science degree.

The Salisbury Post reported (http://bit.ly/1mCyvca ) has received a donation from the Blanche & Julian Robertson Family Foundation.

The college will begin recruiting faculty and administration for the program this fall.

More than half of the registered nurses in North Carolina do not hold bachelor's degrees in nursing. New standards under the Affordable Care Act and recommendations from the Institute of Medicine have increased demand for nurses with a bachelor's degree.
