CINCINNATI (AP) — An Ohio man who was 12 when he says he was repeatedly raped by an older inmate in a now-shuttered juvenile prison has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against seven corrections workers.
The man, now about 20 years old, says the officers and administrators at Marion Juvenile Correctional Facility failed to protect him by housing him in the same unit as an 18-year-old inmate known to sexually target young boys.
The man says he reported being abused by the older inmate, and that several staff members failed to act.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Youth Services, which employed the workers being sued, declined to immediately comment Friday.
Marion closed in 2009 following the settlement of a long-running lawsuit alleging a culture of violence permeating Ohio's juvenile correctional facilities.
