BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — The University of Charleston has received approval for an associate degree nursing program at its Beckley campus.
The West Virginia Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses approved the program earlier this month.
It fills a void left by the closure of Mountain State University. The University of Charleston took over Mountain State's campuses in Beckley and Martinsburg on Jan. 1, 2013, after Mountain State lost its accreditation.
University regional president Jerry Forster says there is a great need for the nursing program.
