WASHINGTON (AP) — Michelle Obama used a swearing-in ceremony for 50 new American citizens to make a pitch for overhauling immigration policy.
The first lady said the United States grows stronger because of its immigrant population.
She was on hand as 50 people from 44 nations were naturalized in the rotunda of the National Archives on Wednesday.
Mrs. Obama said an immigration overhaul was her husband's legislative priority and that he would keep fighting for it.
President Barack Obama has been pressing House Republicans to act, but they are showing no appetite to address the millions of immigrants living illegally in the U.S.
Supporters of immigration changes want the president to move ahead on what limited action he can take on his own.
