Obama longs to break out of White House bubble

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (AP) — President Barack Obama is spending a long Father's Day weekend with his wife and eldest daughter in California.

The visit to the Palm Springs area is one way the president has been trying to escape during his sixth year in the White House.

The restless president has compared himself to a caged animal on recent wanderings by declaring the "bear is loose."

He fantasizes about being "on a beach somewhere drinking out of a coconut" after leaving office.

Or he says he's love to walk out of the White House gate to the Lincoln Memorial unrecognized or people-watch in a cafe. He says the thing a president misses most is anonymity.

Obama is spending much of his California down time golfing, despite temperatures above 100 degrees.
