RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Dave Brat has been holed up in his suburban Richmond home for three days since he scored a major upset victory against House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the GOP primary.
Brat said he wants to spend time with his family and decompress after the campaign. His retreat from the national spotlight underscores how few people — apparently including the candidate himself — expected Brat to win.
Political science professor Stephen J. Farnsworth said Brat is making a mistake by not doing more to introduce himself to the nation while interest is high in his win at the polls.
Virginia Democrats said they will give Brat's past and future comments heavy scrutiny heading into the general election.
