TORONTO (AP) — Funeral services are planned in Toronto for an American cardiologist from the minority Ahmadi (ah-mah-DEE') sect killed in Pakistan last week in front of his wife and toddler son.
Police say two gunmen riding a motorcycle shot Mehdi Ali Qamar (meh-dee ah-LEE' kuh-MER) as he and his family left a cemetery after visiting relatives' graves.
Qamar's wife and son were not harmed. He is survived by two other sons.
A viewing and prayers were planned Tuesday in Toronto, where many of Qamar's family members live, with the burial Wednesday. Qamar had dual U.S. and Canadian citizenship.
While in Parkistan Qamar had planned to treat patients at the Tahir Heart Institute.
