Ohio man dies trying to save girl from drowning

BAY VILLAGE, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio father of four died trying to save a young girl from drowning in Lake Erie.

U.S. Coast Guard officials say 43-year-old Peter Radke of Medina was among a group of people who jumped into the lake just west of Cleveland on Saturday evening to help a young girl struggling in the waves.

The girl was rescued, but Radke didn't emerge from the water.

A three-hour search ensued before divers found his body.

WEWS-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1hNERQm) that Radke was at the beach attending a birthday party with his children.

He is survived by his wife and four children.

Radke's family says in a statement that though they didn't expect to lose him so soon, they take comfort that his "final moments were spent saving the life of another."
