JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi's Senate primary has morphed from a fight between the tea party and establishment Republicans into an ad war driven by a clandestine image of a candidate's ailing wife that appeared in an online video.
State Sen. Chris McDaniel, who is opposing incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran, is trying to deliver a rare tea party victory this midterm election. The primary is Tuesday.
Last week, Cochran's campaign launched an ad that shows a McDaniel supporter charged in a criminal case over a photo of 72-year-old Rose Cochran. The senator's wife lives in a nursing home and has dementia.
Four men face felony charges in what police describe as a conspiracy to illegally photograph a vulnerable adult.
McDaniel is running an ad accusing Cochran of leveling outrageous attacks against him.
