CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Spring cleaning season is here and the Wyoming Department of Health says people should be aware of the risk of being infected by hantavirus.
Hantavirus has killed six people and infected five others in Wyoming since 1999.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1puSGry ) people can catch hantavirus by being exposed to the droppings of infected rodents. Exposure can happen when people are cleaning out campers, cabins and barns that have been infested by rodents.
Clay Van Houten with the state health department says people should be cautious about entering places that have been closed off for long periods of time.
