Reports: Emergency teams rush to Colorado mudslide

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — Emergency crews are at the scene of a large mudslide in western Colorado in Mesa County, where three people may be missing.

Media reports say the slide struck Sunday on Grand Mesa near the town of Collbran, about 40 miles east of Grand Junction.

The Mesa County Sheriff's office says there are reports of three people missing.

The Grand Junction Sentinel says the slide is near Vega State Park. And Mesa County Lt. Phil Stratton tells the Denver Post that the slide is very large.

The department says the person who reported the slide at about 6:15 p.m. MDT "described hearing a noise that sounded much like a freight train."

Heavy rain has been falling in the area.
