NEW YORK (AP) — Thunderstorms are delaying flights and wreaking havoc on Memorial Day weekend travel at the three major New York City area airports.
The FAA says storms moving through the area Friday evening are holding up flights headed for Newark and La Guardia an average of two hours or more.
La Guardia-bound flights that haven't taken off are being held until 9 p.m.
The FAA says departures from La Guardia and Kennedy are delayed 45 minutes to an hour. Departures from Newark are delayed up to 90 minutes.
Storms started rolling through the New York area around 7:30 p.m. and were forecast to continue into the evening.
The National Weather Service says a flash flood warning is in effect until 10:30 p.m. for Manhattan and parts of Northern New Jersey.
