Spring Lake swim beach closed temporarily

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Ozark-St. Francis National Forests officials have temporarily closed Spring Lake swimming area to the public because of health and safety concerns.

The agency says in a news release that weekly tests of water found high concentrations of E Coli. E Coli is usually caused by heavy rainfall that can carry a variety of contaminants into the water, including animal waste.

Forest officials are testing the water daily and will reopen the swim areas once tests show E Coli levels have dropped to a safe level.

The area is about 20 miles southwest of Dardanelle.
