NEW YORK (AP) — A television show planned for next month will honor pioneers in the gay rights movement, and the Logo television network is planning to make it an annual thing.
Logo will televise "Trailblazers" on June 26, exactly a year after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a provision denying federal benefits to legally married same-sex couples. The show's first honorees will be Edie Windsor, whose challenge to a federal estate tax bill after her partner died led to the court decision, and her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan.
The group A Great Big World and others will perform.
Logo President Stephen Friedman says he hopes "Trailblazers" can become a big signature event, much like the Video Music Awards are on MTV, Logo's sister station at Viacom.
