Ohio teen arrested after shots fired at officer

CINCINNATI (AP) — Police in Cincinnati say an 18-year-old man has been charged with attempted aggravated murder for allegedly firing shots at an officer at close range.

Police said Vincent Phillips III was arrested shortly after the Tuesday night shooting in North College Hill. Jail records didn't indicate if he had an attorney yet. He's scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Sgt. Frank Petrocelli tells The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/1pb8e3J ) that police responded to break up an illegal dice game.

That's when Phillips allegedly opened fire at one of the officers with a semi-automatic handgun from 8 to 12 feet away. The officer was not hit and did not return fire. The gunman ran off.

Petrocelli says police are trying to figure out why the man fired at the officer.
