Business execs skeptical of Christie's chances

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Chris Christie is dismissing his administration's traffic scandal as "a footnote" in his political future. The GOP's elite business class isn't so sure.

Republican donors gathered for a hedge fund conference in Las Vegas share a pessimistic view of Christie's presidential prospects. Even self-proclaimed Christie fans say his political brand probably has suffered permanent damage.

State and federal investigators continue to probe an apparent political retribution plot within the Christie administration that caused massive traffic delays along the George Washington Bridge last fall. Christie has fired senior aides and denied direct knowledge of the incident.

Christie reiterated his interest a presidential bid in unusually strong terms Wednesday while appearing in Washington. He said the traffic controversy "will be a footnote" by the time 2016 arrives.
