2 missing therapy horses found dead in river

BARABOO, Wis. (AP) — Two missing therapy horses have been found dead in the Baraboo River.

The Baraboo News Republic reports (http://bit.ly/T1DpEq ) a kayaker traveling along the river west of La Valle found the bodies horses May 8.

The horses, Jimmy and Vicki, were used in therapy programs for veterans and troubled youth. Their owner initially believed they had been stolen because there were no signs the horses escaped.

But Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister says they never found any evidence of criminal activity. He says the river had high water and was icy at the time the animals went missing in March. He says it appears the animals drowned by accident.

He says it's unclear how the animals got outside the gate of the farm.
