Legendary basketball coach Meyer in hospice care

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — The family of former Northern State University basketball coach Don Meyer says he is now in hospice care in Aberdeen.

The family says in a statement that Meyer's health has been declining over the past several months, and after a three-day stay at a hospital with a feeding tube he is now at home in hospice care.

Meyer retired from coaching in 2010 with a then-NCAA record 923 victories. The native of Wayne, Nebraska, is 69 years old.

Meyer in 2008 was critically injured in a car accident that later resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee. Doctors discovered during his treatment following the crash that he had an inoperable form of cancer.
