TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A psychologist says a woman accused of shooting her two teenagers called herself "a failure" because she didn't succeed at committing suicide after killing her children.
Dr. Eldra Solomon testified Monday for the defense in the trial of Julie Schenecker, which is being held in Hillsborough County Court. She says she has no doubt Schenecker was insane when she killed her 16-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son in January of 2011.
Schenecker is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The state is not seeking the death penalty.
Solomon told the jury that she reviewed all of Schenecker's medical records and spent 20 hours with her following the slayings.
She says Schenecker has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder with psychotic features on many different occasions, by several doctors, throughout her life.
