Alaska sees spike in sexually transmitted diseases

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — State health officials say there has been a spike in the number of Alaskans contracting sexually transmitted diseases this year.

KTUU reports (http://is.gd/YcdGFZ) officials have seen an increase of about 20 news cases each of HIV and syphilis in the first four months of 2014. This compares to 24 new cases of HIV and 30 cases of syphilis in all of 2013.

Health officials say the majority of those infected are men.
