Wicked Strong fans give Churchill a Fenway feel

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Fans of Wicked Strong are filtering into Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby this weekend to support the horse named in honor of Boston Marathon victims.

Red Sox ball caps dotted the sea of fancy hats Saturday. And many joined in when the people running the public address system played the Fenway Park sing-along "Sweet Caroline."

Wicked Strong was the number two choice going into the 140th Kentucky Derby. The horse's lead owner wanted to name it Boston Strong but that name was taken.

Matt Fermino was roaming the infield the day before the Derby with a group of fellow Bostonians. He said Wicked Strong fever hasn't exactly taken over Boston. But he said people back north will be pulling for the horse when it breaks from the outside gate.
