Norovirus confirmed as cause of diners' sickness

MADISON, N.Y. (AP) — Public health authorities say a norovirus caused dozens of diners to fall ill after eating at a central New York restaurant's Easter buffet.

The Madison County Public Health Department tells local media that lab results confirmed that the gastrointestinal outbreak linked to the Hotel Solsville was caused by norovirus, which can result in nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

The agency says it has received more than 60 reports of people who got sick after eating Easter Sunday meals at the restaurant, located in the town of Madison 35 miles east of Syracuse.

The business voluntarily closed operations for 24 hours to conduct intensive cleaning and sanitizing throughout the restaurant, which reopened Thursday after an inspection by the health department.
